What I bring to the table...
As your North Operations Committee and Sign-Up & Scheduling Committee Representative:
I will bring a fresh and informed view to these two very important and intrinsically-linked committees, using knowledge gained over the last decade riding on, and more importantly, working for our growing transit system.
I have been a transit rider in Waterloo Region for 13 years, and continue to use transit both in Waterloo Region and elsewhere to get around to many places to this day. I am a supporter of good public transportation policy in general and have closely monitored the evolution of our transit system over many years; having witnessed many changes over time I see...“plenty”...of room for GRT to improve both in how our services are set up and operate.
During 2002 I was employed as a ‘Transit Assistant’ with GRT Planning/Scheduling and during this time I learned many of the inner-workings of our transit system. In addition to working in the office environment, I participated in staff planning/scheduling meetings, public information centres before proposed transit service changes, performed customer service tasks, passenger boarding/alighting counts and recording schedule adherence issues. As of today I have been employed as a GRT Conventional Bus Operator for just over 2 years...and counting!
I believe my various experiences with our own transit system over the last decade, and use of other transit systems as a passenger give me a unique perspective and know-how from three very different viewpoints; from that of the office, the driver and the passenger. These viewpoints and my attention to detail will be a significant advantage in both the Operations and Sign-Up & Scheduling Committees for providing informed and balanced suggestions to try and improve conditions for both operators and passengers alike.
In addition to my transit experience, since 2004 I have been an elected member of the Board of Directors of Waterloo North Condominium Corporation #20 (part as Treasurer, currently as Secretary); as such I have ongoing experience in the daily operation of a large organization, being in the ‘meeting environment’, staying organized, planning ahead and the ability to compromise or stand firm when necessary to do so.
So, come Committee Election Day on Wednesday, June 16th, vote for a fresh perspective; vote for Warren Schnurr as your North Representative for the Operations and Sign-Up & Scheduling Committees!
